In this exclusive conversation with The Arab Today, Youssef Elsorady shares the inspiration behind PyraMedicine, the challenges of pioneering a new industry model, and his vision for Egypt’s future as a global healthcare destination.
We started the interview by asking, “What inspired you to launch PyraMedicine, and what gap were you trying to solve?”
Youssef Elsorady replied: “As a doctor, I witnessed firsthand the incredible quality of medical care available in Egypt, yet I also noticed that many international patients were unaware of the opportunities here. Egypt has world-class physicians, advanced medical facilities, and highly competitive treatment costs, but there was no centralized digital platform connecting international patients with these services.
That realization inspired me to create PyraMedicine, Egypt’s first online medical tourism platform. My vision was simple but ambitious: to make Egypt accessible to patients worldwide by removing the barriers that often make cross-border healthcare complicated.
We built a platform that helps patients navigate everything from medical consultations and hospital selection to travel arrangements and treatment coordination. Today, after hosting patients from five continents and dozens of countries, it is rewarding to see how a local idea has evolved into a platform with global impact.”
The Arab Today:PyraMedicine has welcomed patients from five continents in just over a year. What factors do you believe have contributed most to this rapid international growth?
Youssef Elsorady replied: “Our growth has been driven by trust, accessibility, and patient outcomes.
Healthcare is one of the most personal decisions anyone can make, especially when traveling abroad for treatment. From day one, we focused on creating a seamless and transparent experience that gives patients confidence throughout their journey.
Another key factor is Egypt’s unique value proposition. Patients can access high-quality medical care across multiple specialties while benefiting from significant cost savings compared to many Western countries. Combined with our personalized support, this creates a compelling experience that resonates globally.
We also embraced digital transformation early. By building an online platform and maintaining strong communication with patients before, during, and after treatment, we created a scalable model capable of serving people from different countries and cultures. That combination has helped us expand much faster than many expected.”
The Arab Today: Some have described you as “the wonderkid building a medical tourism empire in Egypt.” How do you view that recognition, and what does it mean to you personally?
Youssef Elsorady replied: “I genuinely appreciate the recognition because it reflects the impact of our work rather than just my individual journey. Being called a wonderkid is flattering, but what matters most to me is that people are recognizing Egypt’s potential in healthcare and medical tourism.
For me, entrepreneurship is not about titles. It is about solving meaningful problems and creating value for people. Every patient we help, every successful treatment journey, and every positive outcome is far more rewarding than any headline.
That said, the recognition motivates me to think bigger, innovate faster, and continue pushing the industry forward. I see it as both an honor and a responsibility. When people believe in your vision, you have an obligation to keep delivering results and raising standards for the entire sector.”
The Arab Today: What challenges did you face while building Egypt’s first online medical tourism platform, and how did you overcome them?
Youssef Elsorady replied: “Building something new always comes with challenges, especially when there is no existing blueprint to follow. One of our biggest challenges was educating international patients about Egypt’s healthcare capabilities. Many people were unfamiliar with the quality and diversity of medical services available here.
Another challenge was coordinating multiple aspects of the patient journey. Medical tourism is not only about treatment. It also involves travel logistics, accommodation, communication, and ongoing support. We had to create systems that could efficiently manage every step while maintaining a personalized experience.
We overcame these challenges through persistence, innovation, and continuous improvement. We listened carefully to patient feedback, refined our processes, and built strong relationships with healthcare providers. Every obstacle became an opportunity to strengthen our platform and improve the experience we deliver.”
Lastly, we asked, “What is your long-term vision for PyraMedicine and for Egypt’s role in the global medical tourism industry?”
Youssef Elsorady concluded: “My long-term vision is for PyraMedicine to become the leading gateway to healthcare in the Middle East and Africa while establishing Egypt as one of the world’s most trusted medical tourism destinations.
I believe Egypt has all the ingredients necessary to become a global leader in this field: exceptional medical talent, modern healthcare infrastructure, strategic geographic positioning, and a rich cultural experience for visitors. Our goal is to continue expanding our network, introducing new specialties, leveraging technology, and reaching more international markets.
Ultimately, I want PyraMedicine to be known not only as a successful company but also as a catalyst that transformed how the world views Egyptian healthcare. If we can continue improving access to quality treatment while contributing to the country’s economic growth and international reputation, that will be our greatest achievement.”
