In this exclusive interview, Vincenzo Russi shares his journey, industry insights, and vision for the future of sustainable living. As sustainability becomes a defining factor in modern construction, few leaders have demonstrated the vision and execution required to transform the industry like Architect Vincenzo Russi. As the Founder and CEO of Green Living Ltd and Green Living Architecture FZCO, Vincenzo Russi has dedicated his career to creating environmentally responsible buildings that combine innovation, efficiency, and contemporary design.
Founded in 2010, Green Living specializes in the design and construction of wooden buildings and repurposed naval container structures, guided by the principles of green building, energy independence, and low environmental impact. With more than 1,200 completed projects, over 25,000 square meters designed, and 127 buildings constructed across Europe and the United Arab Emirates, the company continues to redefine sustainable architecture on a global scale.
The vision behind a sustainable movement
We started the interview by asking, “Who is Vincenzo Russi, and what inspired you to establish Green Living?”
Vincenzo Russi replied, “I am an architect and entrepreneur passionate about sustainable development and innovative construction methods. My vision was to create buildings that not only meet functional and aesthetic requirements but also contribute positively to the environment. When I founded Green Living in 2010, I recognized the growing need for architecture that could reduce energy consumption, minimize environmental impact, and improve quality of life. This inspired me to focus on green building solutions that integrate advanced technologies, renewable energy systems, and sustainable materials.
Today, Green Living continues to transform this vision into reality through projects that prioritize environmental responsibility without compromising on design excellence.”
Redefining construction
The Arab Today: What makes Green Living different from traditional architecture and construction companies?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “Green Living was built around sustainability from day one. Unlike traditional construction approaches, we design buildings that are highly energy-efficient, environmentally conscious, and often fully self-sufficient in both energy and water. Our expertise includes wooden structures, modular construction, and innovative container architecture. Every project is developed with a holistic approach that considers energy performance, resource efficiency, occupant wellbeing, and long-term sustainability. We also provide complete project management, supporting clients from the initial concept and design stage all the way through construction and final delivery.”
Exploring smarter, greener building solutions
The Arab Today: What are the key advantages of wooden buildings and container-based architecture?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “Wood is one of the most sustainable construction materials available today. It is renewable, offers excellent thermal performance, and significantly reduces a building’s carbon footprint compared to conventional materials. Container architecture provides flexibility, speed of construction, and cost efficiency. By repurposing shipping containers, we can reduce waste while creating highly functional and modern spaces for residential, commercial, and institutional applications. Both solutions align perfectly with our mission of promoting environmentally responsible construction practices.”
Meeting global challenges
The Arab Today: Why is sustainable architecture becoming increasingly important worldwide?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “The construction industry has a significant impact on global energy consumption and carbon emissions. Sustainable architecture addresses these challenges by designing buildings that use fewer resources, generate less waste, and operate more efficiently. As climate concerns continue to grow, governments, businesses, and homeowners are increasingly seeking solutions that reduce environmental impact while delivering long-term economic benefits. Sustainable buildings help achieve both objectives by lowering operating costs and improving overall resilience. This shift is no longer a trend, it is becoming the standard for responsible development.”
Designing structures
The Arab Today: How does Green Living create self-sufficient buildings?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “Our goal is to maximize independence from traditional utility systems whenever possible. We achieve this by integrating renewable energy technologies, advanced insulation systems, rainwater harvesting solutions, the installation of machines that produce water from the air (dehumidification) up to 300 liters/day, water recycling technologies, and smart energy management systems.
By combining these elements during the design phase, we can create buildings capable of generating their own energy and managing water resources efficiently, significantly reducing operating costs and environmental impact.”
Preparing the industry for a sustainable future
The Arab Today: What challenges do you see facing the architecture and construction industry in the coming years?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “One of the biggest challenges is balancing rapid urban development with environmental responsibility. The industry must adopt more sustainable materials, smarter technologies, and innovative construction methods to meet future demands. Another challenge is educating stakeholders about the long-term value of sustainable construction. While some may focus on initial investment costs, the long-term savings, durability, and environmental benefits often far outweigh those concerns. The future belongs to companies willing to innovate and embrace sustainability as a core business principle.”
Applying global expertise
The Arab Today: Green Living has completed projects across multiple countries. How has international experience influenced your approach?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “Working across Italy, Lithuania, England, Austria, Slovenia, and the United Arab Emirates has given us valuable insights into different architectural traditions, environmental conditions, and client expectations.
This international experience enables us to adapt our solutions to diverse markets while maintaining the same commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation. It has also strengthened our ability to deliver projects that meet global standards while respecting local contexts.”
Harnessing innovation
The Arab Today: What role does technology play in modern sustainable architecture?
Vincenzo Russi replied, “Technology is a fundamental driver of sustainable architecture. From advanced design software and energy modeling tools to smart building systems and renewable energy technologies, innovation allows us to optimize building performance throughout its lifecycle. The integration of intelligent systems helps reduce energy consumption, improve operational efficiency, and create healthier environments for occupants. As technology continues to evolve, its role in sustainable construction will become even more significant.”
A long-term investment
Lastly, we asked, “What advice would you give to businesses and homeowners considering sustainable construction?”
“My advice is to view sustainability as a long-term investment rather than a short-term expense. Sustainable buildings provide measurable benefits through reduced energy costs, increased property value, improved comfort, and environmental stewardship. Working with experienced professionals from the beginning is essential because sustainability should be integrated into every stage of planning and design. The earlier these considerations are included, the greater the benefits that can be achieved.” Vincenzo Russi concluded
