We started the interview by asking, “From the Battlefield to the Boardroom: How did your military experience shape your leadership philosophy?”
Joseph Frankie III replied, “My time at West Point and as a combat veteran taught me that leadership begins with trust, teamwork, and communication. In the military, you quickly learn that success depends not on individual brilliance but on how effectively a team operates under pressure. That principle translates directly to the corporate world. Whether managing 53,000 associates or leading billion-dollar projects, my focus has always been on building cohesive teams that understand the mission, respect one another, and communicate clearly. Leadership isn’t about giving orders it’s about creating an environment where people can excel, adapt, and deliver results even under uncertainty.”

The Arab Today: You’ve led business projects worth up to $8 billion worldwide. What’s your approach to “untangling” complex initiatives?
Joseph Frankie III replied, “Complex projects usually fail not because of technology or funding, but because of miscommunication and misalignment. My method starts with clarity defining the problem, identifying the right stakeholders, and establishing a shared vision. I then build cross-functional teams that combine technical and cultural intelligence. You can’t force collaboration; you have to nurture it through accountability and trust. By applying systems thinking and lessons learned from both military logistics and executive management, I focus on reducing risk, transferring knowledge efficiently, and ensuring that everyone understands not just what to do, but why it matters.”

The Arab Today: What role does mentorship play in your career, both as a mentor and a mentee?

Now, as a mentor myself, I see it as both a duty and a privilege to guide others. I’ve coached individuals from 15 to 84 years old executives, veterans, and students each with unique goals.
