We started the interview by asking, “You’ve led a life deeply immersed in both spirituality and academia. How have these two worlds shaped one another in your journey?”
Ann Riedling replied, “They are beautifully interwoven. My academic background fostered a commitment to research, curiosity, and truth-seeking. At the same time, my spiritual calling nurtured compassion, service, and deep listening. Together, they shaped me into someone who views knowledge not just as information, but as a sacred tool for connection and healing. Rather than walking two separate paths, I see them as one journey that constantly informs itself.”

The Arab Today: You’ve been awarded the prestigious Fulbright honor. What did that experience mean for your work and worldview?
Ann Riedling replied, “The Fulbright experience was truly transformational. It opened doors to international collaboration, cultural exchange, and reciprocal learning. It deepened my understanding of how knowledge and spirituality transcend borders. Personally, it strengthened my belief in education as a unifying force — one that can bridge differences and foster global empathy.”
Building Bridges through Interfaith Dialogue
The Arab Today: Your work spans education, theology, and intercultural dialogue. What drives your passion for interfaith collaboration in today’s world?
Ann Riedling replied, “The urgency of our times. We are facing increasing division, and interfaith work offers a path toward peace, respect, and deeper understanding. My passion is fueled by the belief that every tradition has wisdom to share. When we come together with open hearts and curious minds, we don’t just tolerate each other. We grow together. That’s the essence of my commitment to this work.”
The Power of Personal Narratives
The Arab Today: What role does storytelling play in your work as a minister and educator?
Ann Riedling replied, “Storytelling is central to everything I do. Stories are how we make sense of the world and connect across boundaries. Whether I’m in a classroom, a pulpit, or a conversation, I find that sharing personal narratives opens hearts in ways data alone cannot. Stories invite empathy. They remind us of our shared humanity. I believe that when we tell our stories with honesty and listen to others with care, we begin to heal the divides between us.”
A Legacy of Connection
The Arab Today: As an educator, author, and minister, what legacy do you hope to leave behind?
Ann Riedling replied, “My deepest hope is that I leave behind a legacy of connection between people, ideas, and faiths. Whether through my lectures, sermons, or written words, I want to be remembered as someone who helped others grow, reflect, and find peace. If I’ve helped even a few people feel seen, heard, and understood, then I’ve done what I was meant to do.”
Staying Grounded amidst Purpose
The Arab Today: How do you stay grounded and inspired in your daily life, especially when balancing so many meaningful roles?
Ann Riedling replied, “I stay grounded through simple yet intentional practices: prayer, meditation, quiet time in nature, and meaningful conversation. Inspiration often comes from the people I encounter — students, readers, community members — whose lives reflect courage and resilience. That energy reminds me why I do this work. And when I need renewal, I turn to the same sources I encourage others to seek: reflection, faith, and connection.”
