Saudi Arabia said on Sunday that it has given $12 billion and carried out 264 development projects in Yemen through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), according to the state news agency SPA.

Financial Support

Saudi Arabia said that from 2012 to 2023, it gave Yemen about $12 billion in financial aid. This money helped Yemen’s budget and made it easier to pay salaries.

Saudi Arabia also gave Yemen oil grants, which helped reduce government costs. It added money to Yemen’s foreign exchange reserves, helping keep the Yemeni Riyal’s value stable.

In addition, Saudi Arabia started several important projects to help Yemen’s economy improve. These projects were done in partnership with the Yemeni government, private businesses, civil groups, and development partners.

Saudi Arabia called on international organizations to help support development projects in Yemen and to keep working together under the leadership of Yemen’s government.

Development Projects

Saudi Arabia said that the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) carried out 264 development projects in key areas. These areas include education, health, water, energy, transportation, farming, fishing, training the Yemeni government, and general development.

In the health sector, SDRPY helped build, equip, repair, and run hospitals and health centers. It also trained medical staff. Some major projects include the King Salman Medical and Educational City in AlMahrah, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in Aden, the Specialized Oncology Center in Taiz, and the Hadhramout University Hospital and Cancer Treatment Center.

In transportation, SDRPY supported over 30 projects, helping more than 14 million people. These projects improved ports, made travel safer, fixed important roads, and upgraded border crossings. SDRPY also helped five Yemeni airports, including repairing Aden International Airport.
