UAE President Meets French President Macron in Abu Dhabi

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. The meeting showed the strong relationship between the UAE and France and their shared goal to improve political and economic cooperation. The news was reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

High-level talks

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed and President Macron talked about the long and friendly relationship between the two countries. They discussed ways to work more closely in many important areas. These included the economy, investment, culture, renewable energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainability.

Both leaders said they want to strengthen cooperation to support growth and development in both countries. They also shared ideas on future projects that can benefit their people and businesses.

The meeting took place at the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi. During the visit, the two leaders exchanged New Year greetings. They expressed hope for continued progress, stability, and prosperity for both nations and their citizens in the coming year.

Senior officials attend

Several senior UAE officials attended the meeting. These included Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Other ministers and high-ranking officials from the UAE were also present.

President Macron was joined by a group of French ministers and senior officials. Their presence highlighted the importance of the visit and the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.

After the talks, Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon in honor of President Macron and the French delegation.

Macron meets French troops

Earlier the same day, President Macron visited French troops stationed at a military base in Abu Dhabi. According to a report by AFP, he told the soldiers that France plans to build a new aircraft carrier to strengthen its naval power.

It is a tradition for the French president to spend part of the Christmas holiday period with French troops serving overseas. More than 900 French military personnel are currently based in the UAE.

French forces in the UAE help with maritime patrols to stop drug trafficking. They also take part in EU-led Operation Aspides in the Red Sea. This operation was launched after attacks on commercial ships by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

In addition, French troops are involved in Operation Chammal, France’s military mission to fight the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

Strong business ties

Economic ties between the UAE and France are also strong. According to the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, more than 15,000 French companies operate in the UAE across many sectors. These include energy, construction, technology, luxury goods, and services.

As of the end of May, around 18,500 French trademarks were registered in the UAE. This shows the growing business presence of French companies and the UAE’s importance as a regional economic hub.

The meeting between Sheikh Mohamed and President Macron further strengthened the partnership between the two countries and confirmed their commitment to deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
