UAE Allows Its Citizens to Travel to Lebanon Again Starting May 7

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that UAE citizens will be allowed to travel to Lebanon again starting May 7, 2025, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Travel Ban Lifted

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced that starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Emiratis can travel to Lebanon again. This decision comes after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun visited the UAE and met with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Both leaders agreed to remove the travel ban after setting up rules and systems to make travel easier between the two countries.

UAE citizens who want to go to Lebanon must register with MoFA’s Twajudi service before they travel, whether flying directly or through another country. Registration is required, and travelers must also inform authorities when they return using the same platform.

People will not be allowed to leave UAE airports unless they have registered. If they don’t, they might face delays or legal trouble.

The ministry also said travelers must give correct and full information, including their address in Lebanon, emergency contacts, and the reason for their trip.

The UAE banned travel to Lebanon in 2021 and pulled its diplomats out of Beirut. Lebanese people could still visit the UAE but had trouble getting visas. In January, the UAE reopened its embassy in Lebanon, showing that ties between the two countries are improving.

UAE-Lebanon Relations

During their meeting, the two presidents agreed to create a UAE-Lebanon Business Council to boost trade and investment.

Before the council is formed, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will send a team to Lebanon to look at possible investment projects.

Also, a UAE government team will visit Beirut soon to share ideas about how to improve government services and help with development in both countries.

Financial Support

In 2024, Gulf countries promised over $150 million in support for Lebanon. The UAE gave $100 million of that amount.

Municipal Elections in Lebanon

Lebanon started its local elections on Sunday, the first since the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah, and since a new national government was formed.

Local elections in Lebanon are supposed to happen every six years. The last one was in 2016, and the most recent one was delayed in April 2024 because of fighting.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, 41.61% of voters in Mount Lebanon Governorate had voted by 6:00 PM AST on Sunday.

People in northern Lebanon will vote on May 11. Elections in Beirut and the eastern Bekaa Valley will be held on May 18, and voters in the south will vote on May 24, according to AFP.
