Abu Dhabi Residents Say They Feel Safe and Supported in New Quality of Life Survey
Abu Dhabi residents say they feel very safe and happy. In a recent survey, 93.6% said they feel safe walking alone at night. This matches the 2025 global rankings, which named Abu Dhabi the safest city in the world, according to the Department of Community Development’s fifth quality of life survey.
Quality of Life in Abu Dhabi
A 2024 survey asked over 100,000 people from 190 countries about life in Abu Dhabi. It looked at 14 important areas, like housing, jobs, health, education, safety, and internet access.
The happiness score went up to 7.7 out of 10, slightly higher than 7.6 in the last survey. About 75.6% of people said they have strong support from family or friends.
Job levels in Abu Dhabi were higher than the average in developed countries (OECD), and 34.3% of people said they volunteer. The city has good internet services, but the survey raised concerns about the mental effects of too much screen time.
Shaikha Alhosani from the Department of Community Development (DCD) said the survey helps shape better social, health, and economic policies using real feedback from the community.
The survey also asked about work-life balance. Many said working hours are still longer than recommended, and this is something that needs more attention to improve well-being.
Global Rankings
Abu Dhabi ranked second in the world for resident satisfaction in Gensler’s City Pulse 2025 report. This study asked over 33,000 people in 65 cities about how they feel about their city, including emotional connection, livability, and job opportunities.
According to the report, 92% of people in Abu Dhabi said they are happy with life in the city—just behind Shanghai. Dubai came in fourth, with 91% satisfaction.
In the 2025 World Happiness Report, the UAE ranked 21st in the world—higher than the United States and the highest among Arab countries. This report looked at happiness in 147 countries using data from 2022 to 2024.
Looking Ahead
The DCD is inviting people in Abu Dhabi to join the sixth round of the survey, which will be launched later this year.
