Qatar teams up with Scale AI to improve government services using AI tools

Qatar has teamed up with AI data company Scale AI to use AI tools and training to improve government services.

Qatar Partners with AI Firm

Qatar has signed a long-term deal with an AI company to improve government operations using technology like predictive analytics, automation, and data analysis. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced the partnership on social media but did not share financial details.

Trevor Thompson, head of growth at the San Francisco-based company, said the deal could serve as a model for other governments and help speed up progress.

The agreement was signed at the Web Qatar 2025 Summit by Qatar’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, and Scale AI’s founder and CEO, Alex Wang.

Qatar’s AI Growth

Qatar, a major gas producer and a close US ally, is working to become a leader in AI, competing with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Scale AI, founded in 2016, provides high-quality data for training AI models, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It also works with companies like Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, and OpenAI. Over the next five years, Scale AI will explore more than 50 possible AI applications for Qatar’s government.

Qatar has been expanding its AI sector, especially since late 2024. The country launched its national AI strategy in 2019 and introduced new AI security guidelines in 2024. These efforts align with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which focuses on long-term economic growth and innovation.

To strengthen cybersecurity, Qatar launched the National Cyber Security Academy as a training hub. It is also investing in AI, agritech, cleantech, e-gaming, and cybersecurity to diversify its economy.

Qatar has secured deals to host major AI events, including the Web Summit and World Summit AI for the Middle East and North Africa. US companies are also bringing AI solutions to Qatar, opening opportunities for American businesses to explore emerging technologies.
