UAE Plans to Improve Emergency Response with Jet-Powered Firefighting Drone Called Suhail

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority has introduced Suhail, a jet-powered drone that helps fight fires more quickly. This is an important move toward faster and smarter emergency responses.

Firefighting Drone

A new high-tech drone, first shown at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, can reach fire areas that people can’t easily access. This helps firefighters work faster and more effectively.

The drone, named Suhail, uses smart technology like AI (artificial intelligence), LiDAR (which uses lasers to measure distances), and 3D mapping. This allows it to get to hard-to-reach fire spots quickly and accurately, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The drone will start being used in early 2025. It was successfully tested by the Civil Defense and a UAE company called Drone First Building Services.

Delivery Drone

Drone delivery services will soon cover 33% of Dubai. This will make deliveries faster and more efficient, supporting Dubai’s goal of becoming a high-tech city, said Mohammed Abdullah Linjawi, head of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.

In December, Linjawi said the drone system will help many industries work better and support Dubai’s goals for clean energy and smart transport.

At the launch event, Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, placed the first drone delivery order using a system created by RIT-Dubai. This system is part of a network in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO).

Smart City Plans

Dubai is working on several smart city projects. These include:

  • A program to support drone transport

  • A program for robotics and automation

  • A research and development program

  • A yearly plan to grow the use of AI

DSO also ran test drone deliveries with the help of the Civil Aviation Authority and Keeta Drone. They made sure all safety and security rules were followed.
