Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), also known as Q8, has begun working at two of the busiest fuel stations in Europe—Berchem East and West in Luxembourg, according to Kuwait’s state news agency (KUNA).

New and Modern Stations

KPI plans to improve both sites by adding advanced services like electric vehicle (EV) charging and cleaner fuel options such as renewable diesel.

CEO Shafi Al-Ajmi said this project will help Kuwait grow its energy business worldwide and improve customer service.

KPI won the rights to run the stations through a bidding process. This deal doubles its number of motorway stations in Luxembourg to 40.

KPI is the global arm of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). It runs over 4,800 fuel stations across Europe and supplies jet fuel to more than 80 airports.

Eco-Friendly Upgrades

The Berchem stations will include 50 fuel pumps for cars, 76 for trucks, 12 fast EV chargers, and shops such as Delhaize Shop&Go and Panos. Solar panels will be added to the roofs by the end of the year.

KPI also wants to install 500 EV charging points across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (Benelux) in the next five years. It plans to grow its number of stations in Luxembourg from 6 to 9 by 2025, and to 20 by 2030. Three of these new stations will be hybrid fuel-electric.

KPI also plans to expand its retail shops and food services as part of its business strategy.

Global Expansion and Green Goals

In March last year, KPI bought 50% of Italian biofuel company ECO FOX to help reduce pollution from transport fuels. ECO FOX, located in Vasto, makes up to 200,000 tons of advanced biodiesel each year. KPI says this will help them grow in Italy and earn more revenue.

Fighting Climate Change

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation wants to cut greenhouse gas emissions and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. It plans to do this through methods like carbon capture, using biofuels, and reducing gas waste. This supports Kuwait’s national goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2060.
